April Harris

APRIL L. HARRIS is a recognized authority on collegiate special events management, academic traditions, etiquette, and protocol.
The first to define the important role of events in institutional advancement with her book, Special Events Planning For Success, she is also the author of the best sellers Etiquette and Protocol A Guide for Campus Events; and Academic Ceremonies A Handbook of Traditions and Protocol.

The founder and former publisher of Events newsletter, she has established a reputation as an advocate for elevating the stature of events planners on campus and for upholding academic traditions.  A popular conference speaker, she is regarded as the definitive authority on campus events planning and a ready resource for insightful, accurate information. 

April is the Associate Vice President for University Events at the University of Alabama in Huntsville, where she is responsible for ceremonies, major public events, and university protocol. She has served as a member of the alumni, development, or public relations staffs at Bowling Green State University, Baylor College of Medicine, Utah State University, and the Huntsville Botanical Garden.

In 2008 she was chosen as the recipient of one of the Council For Advancement and Support of Education's (CASE) highest honors, the Frank Ashmore Award for service to the advancement profession. She has also earned a CASE Steuben Apple for teaching and the CASE Warwick Award in Alumni Relations for Outstanding Published Scholarship. She is a former member of the CASE District III Board of Directors. She has also served as a member of the CASE National Commission on Alumni Relations, is a former chair of the National Educational Alumni Trust (NEAT), and is a past president of the North American Association of Commencement Officers (NAACO). She is a member of Protocol and Diplomacy International--Protocol Officer's Association.
